Grand Teton American Sour 2016 is our 3rd release of Grand Teton American Sour, and our 7th release of our Brewers’ Series beers in bottles since the program began in 2015. After repeated success with this beer, we are excited to offer this third annual blend. Highly positive reviews, a rapid depletion of our inventory and a total of three national medals over the previous two re- leases validate our plan to annually offer a new blend of American Sour.

This year’s version is a blend of our base pale sour that has aged in oak barrels, some for as long as 24 months. The use of oats and other raw cereal grains, such as spelt and wheat, has become standard in our sour bases. It produces
complex sugars for our ‘team’ of wild yeasts and bacteria living in our oak barrels to consume and convert into highly complex flavors and aromatics.

We initially ferment these base beers with our house ale yeast. Upon completion of primary fermentation, we transfer the beer to oak barrels. In order to continue producing unique American Sour style ales, we have expanded our oak barrel
fleet, inoculating many with rare and exotic strains of Lactobacillus, Brettanomyces and Pediococcus.

For American Sour 2016, we hand-selected each barrel for blending to create a truly one of a kind Grand Teton Brewing sour beer. By aging this sour ale in a wide range of barrels, we know we selected and blended the highest quality beer.

Like all of our sour beers in our Brewers’ Series, we expect this beer to robustly stand the tests of time. American Sour 2016 should continue to develop its sour characteristics for years if stored properly.
